• Selected plays will be given one or more public readings at the festival.
• All applicants are invited to participate in ATB workgroups.
• A small cash prize will be awarded to the winning playwright in each language.  (ATB Board members are not eligible for prize.)

Dramatic reading pieces are to be short plays in English, Spanish, Chinese, or some combination of these language.  The content of submitted pieces should correspond to the theme of the Urban Arts Festival: i.e., the life and aspirations of the New York City community.

The Selection Committee will be guided by the following criteria: (1) aesthetic value, and (2) how well the work meets the theme of the festival.

Maximum length for plays: 12 minutes.  Scripts should be in standard dramatic format.  No children's plays.  Plays must be unproduced, unpublished, and not under option.

Submissions should be sent to ATB (to the address or email address below) and should include:

1. A completed copy of the application form.
2. A check for the (non-refundable) application fee of $8 (waived for ATB 2005 members) per script.
3. A one paragraph bio for the festival program.
4. Two copies of each script, each with two title pages: one bearing, in addition to the title and copyright information (if any), the author's name, address, phone, and email address, the other with only the title (and, optionally, a copyright date, without a name).

ATB will notify the playwright in timely fashion as to selection of their submission(s) for public reading.

Submission Deadline:  Submissions must be received by November 30, 2005.

The annual New York Faces, Scenes and Dreams Festival is administered by and as a benefit event for Around The Block, a not-for-profit organization chartered in the State of New York and tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code, cultivates arts and technologies in New York City communities.
