Activities
Around The Block, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, cultivates urban community participation in arts and technologies, with a focus on the New York City area. We welcome people of all backgrounds and levels of expertise to our activities, which include workgroups, performances, and exhibits. Membership in Around The Block is not required in order to participate in most ATB activities (and in particular those held at branches of the New York Public Library). Nikaury Rodriguez
Nikaury Rodriguez is an actor, dramaturg, director, teaching artist, skills/diversity trainer, and dancer from NYC. For many years, she has delivered customized learning through theatre for people of all ages/settings and companies. Nikaury has collaborated with organizations including: Around The Block (Board member), Henry Street Settlement, TDF, Manhattan Theatre Club, Manhattan Class Co., ArtsConnection, Ecko Arts, and JACK Arts (co-founder & Board Member), to name a few.
Around The Block Playwriting Course
Around The Block will be offering a playwriting course: Community Principles of Playwriting – what they are and how to apply them.
Topics covered will include:
- writing for the audience, cast and crew, and larger community
- seven dimensions of a play
- nature, pros and cons of theatre and playwriting as distinct from other art forms
